The College of Architecture & Environmental Design (CAED) offers the following graduate studies in Urbanism:
- Graduate Certificate in Urban Design [CUD 16]
- Post-professional Master of Architecture degree
program with a Concentration in Post-Professional Studies (MArchPPS 32), emphasis on Urbanism;
- Master of Urban Design [MUD 32]
These programs are based at Kent State University's Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative (CUDC), which also houses the CAED's primary outreach institute, the Urban Design Center of Northeast Ohio. The alliance of professional and academic activities at the CUDC gives the students unique opportunities for service learning and real-world experience in urban design.
Students in the urban design programs may also take courses in urban planning and public policy at Cleveland State University's highly regarded Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs.
Due to their flexibility, short duration and broad range of elective courses, the CUD [16], the MArchPPS [32] and the MUD [32] are particularly suitable for part-time students, with work experience and clearly defined professional interests.
Characterizing courses of the programs are:
- Analysis of Urban Form
- Forces That Shape Cities
- Urban Systems
- Urban Ecology
- Urban Design & Development
- Real Estate & Market Analysis
- Community Development
- Community Design Charrettes
- Urban Design Studios
- Capstone Design Project (final independent study for the master's programs)
